Internet Safety Tips
  • Never give out personal information, such as full name, address, phone number, Social Security number, school name, hometown, picture, or passwords.
  • Never meet someone in person that you have met online without an adult’s permission.
  • Never enter into a chat room without an adult’s permission. Some “kids” that you meet may not be who they say they are.
  • Always be suspicious of someone if they try to turn you against your family, teachers, or friends.
  • Never respond to an email, chat, or IM from someone new without an adult checking it out first. Never continue a conversation with someone if they make you feel uncomfortable in any way. If this happens, show the reply to an adult.
  • Choose a non gender-specific and non identifiable nickname.
  • Know how to have safe conversations.
  • Never use the automatic login on a shared computer.
  • Remember to treat others with respect and use good “netiquette.”
